Introduction toApplied Economics

Applied Economics applies the basic principles and analytical methods of economics to study the theoretical, operational, and mechanistic aspects of economic activities or to analyze the economic and social benefits of non-economic activity fields. In 2010, the School of Economics at Hefei University of Technology was authorized to grant master’s degrees in applied economics with research areas including industrial innovation and regional development, big data and economic quantitative analysis, international trade and cross-border investment, and socio-economic statistical analysis. The curriculum of the Applied Economics program includes professional courses such as Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Economic Research Methodology, and Economic Data Analysis and Software Applications, as well as specialized elective courses based on different research areas.


Educational Goals

This program aims to cultivate high-level specialized talents who possess rigorous scientific attitudes and innovative spirits, solid theoretical knowledge of Applied Economics, and high-level specialized expertise in Economics. Graduates will be able to grasp the theoretical frontier of applied economics, systematically master and apply research methods in the field, and have theoretical and practical knowledge of the frontier and cutting-edge issues in applied economics. They will be able to use standardized economic methods and software to analyze and research real economic issues. They will possess the ability to combine theory with practice to solve practical problems, adapt to the needs of the market economy, and develop comprehensive skills in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, art, and labor. In addition, this program lays a solid foundation for doctoral studies.
